[edit] Synopsis
At the annual Springfield Pride Awards, which are hosted by Kent Brockman and Britney Spears, awards are given to prominent Springfield citizens for their achievements. Later on, they present an award for the oldest man in Springfield to Cornelius Chapman, a venerable 108-year-old man. He comes up to accept his award, but when Britney Spears kisses him, he dies. Later on, after a search, Mr. Burns—Springfield's oldest resident—wins the award. After he "wins" the award, he realizes he is not a young man anymore, and he and Smithers go to the Mayo Clinic. They give the Simpsons an opportunity to work at Mr. Burns' private mansion. The family have fun at Mr. Burns' mansion. Meanwhile, Mr. Burns, at the Mayo Clinic, is being tested to see what disease he has.
Later, Homer wants a beer so he heads to Moe's. However, Moe informs Homer that he can not sell him alcohol on account of it being Sunday before 2PM. But Moe also informs Homer that he could sail out to international waters, where it would be legal to sell alcohol. They do, with Homer bringing Moe, Lenny, Carl, and a posse of others (including Bart) to get to international waters where there is no laws which means they can do what they want. Back at the Mayo Clinic, Mr. Burns discovers that he not only has a lot of actual diseases (including juvenile diabetes and a little bit of hysterical pregnancy), but also some new ones the doctors have appeared to discover in him. Homer's ship is, however, confronted by a boat of pirates, who take Homer's ship hostage as the pirates head for Hong Kong, which they call "hidden pirate island". They are almost killed until they are saved by a floating net, thankfully. The family leaves after Marge and Lisa clean Burns' house. Back home, Homer is worried that he doesn't actually live the lifestyle of rich people.
[edit] Cultural references
- This episode's name is a play on the Manson Family, the cult lead by Charles Manson who were responsible for the murder of Sharon Tate and others.
- Mr. Burns' disposable, self-replacing bed is a reference to the 1997 film The Fifth Element.
- The monkey named Furious George is an obvious parody of Curious George.
