The Maine Photographic Workshops was founded in 1973 in Rockport, Maine by David H. Lyman. The Workshops offer around 250 one-week workshops and master classes in all fields of photography, and each summer, it attracts over 2,500 students, from professionals to those just starting out.

On August 22, 2006, Lyman announced that he intends to sell the Workshops as well as Rockport College, which was founded in 1996, and much of the physical campus shared by both, in order to spend more time with his family and on personal projects. [1]
