The Lawn Ground
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lawn Ground is home to Nationwide Conference football club, Forest Green Rovers F.C. in the county of Gloucestershire. It also hosts local cup finals as well as being home to the Forest Green Ladies and youth sides.
The ground has a capacity of 5,141 spaces and on matchdays usually fills up to just over 1,000 spectators. For local derbies the ground can expect 2,000 to 3,000 people.
The main stand is the Trevor Horsley Stand, named after the chairman of the club Trevor Horsley. It seats 500 and includes hospitality boxes, underground changing rooms, board room, function room, bar, a health suite and offices.
The ground has floodlights with the rest of the ground terraced. About 60% of the ground is covered, however 80% is terraced. The biggest terrace stand is the Barnfield Terrace. The other sections of the ground include the Nympsfield Road Terrace.
Soon The Lawn is to be demolished and turned into housing as the football club looks to expand as it moves up the road into their new bigger and more modern stadium. The Forest Green New Stadium will hold all their matches and offer much more for the community and the football club.
The club has used only this one ground since 1890 when the club was formed, and moving to a new ground will be a huge step forward.
[edit] Barnfield Terrace
Barnfield Terrace is a terraced stand at The Lawn Ground home of Nationwide Conference football club Forest Green Rovers F.C. It is a covered terrace and the biggest terrace stand at the small ground at the top of the hill in Nailsworth.
The terrace was built around 2001 and 2002 to make the ground bigger and fans paid to have their names engraved onto bricks inside the stand. The terrace is sponsored by Rockwool which is a club sponsor of Forest Green Rovers.
When Rovers leave the ground at the end of the 2005/2006 season the stand will be transferred to the new ground up the road brick by brick. The Forest Green New Stadium. Rovers will soon be playing at the new stadium at the start of the 2006-2007 season.
