[edit] History
It is partly built on the site of the former Hong Kong Hotel, which was in its day the most famous hotel on Hong Kong Island. In 1970's, Hongkong Land started the development of the Landmark under its Central Redevelopment Scheme. The first phase of the project was completed in the late 70's and the whole project was completed in 1983.
When the development was completed in 1983, the development consisted of a series of levels of shops surrounding a large central atrium with two office towers on top, known as Edinburgh Tower and Gloucester Tower respectively, and an annex building, known as the Landmark East. In 2003, Part of Edinburgh Tower was converted into the Mandarin Oriental Landmark, a boutique hotel.
[edit] Connection
The development is in the heart of Central. It is connected directly into the Central MTR station and to other major buildings and locations in Central by extensive pedestrian bridge network.
[edit] Recent Development
In 2006, a new office block, namely, the York House, will be opened to the public. The site was previously the Landmark East and was pulled down in 2000. The newly added extension consists of a 14-floor grade A office block and a 6-floor shopping atrium below. Both the office block and the retail floor space is due to open in late 2006.
