[edit] History
The June Spirit have become one of the classic emo/pop-punk sensations hailing from Marlton, Mt. Laurel, Mt. Holly and Willingboro, New Jersey. Joining a special place in people's hearts with the likes of Lifetime, Kid Dynamite and Saves The Day. These five young men created some of the most earnest and endearing music out today. The June Spirit captured a smooth yet technical guitar sound that sweeps back and forth from minimalist to enormous. Also utilizing the well honed skill of their professionally trained vocalist, Ian Musgrove, they were able to mold the atmosphere surrounding the listener. The June Spirit developed a way, through precise musicianship and honest lyrics, to guide fans on a musical journey.
Despite only being a band for 3 years with little touring, The June Spirit created a noticeable buzz around them. They were ranked on the mp3.com emo charts in the top 25 consecutively for over a year. An attempt to compare them to bands like The Juliana Theory or Taking Back Sunday can't quite capture their electricity. When performing, The June Spirit pulled it's audience into their songs as an active participant, sharing their love, desire and raw power to create an infectious experience.
In August 2001, their debut EP, Treat Me Like Someone Else, was released on Negative Progression Records. This album was met with both praise and hatred by the critics. When a band makes waves like this one did, there is only one truth, they are being noticed. With the release on August 7th, 2002, their debut full length, Testing Superstition, even the haters began to realize their greatness. The June Spirit quickly became an influence on thousands of kids throughout America and the buzz was deafening. Due to the extreme pressure they were going through, The June Spirit broke up in October of 2002. They played their last show at Freedom Skate Park in Medford, New Jersey. Although they aren't here to play for us live, The June Spirit's music lives on spinning in the headphones of every indie rock fan in America and abroad.
