The Jitty

The Jitty is an award winning Leicestershire County Council website aimed at 13-19 year olds to help them make key decisions in their lives. The site has been officially running since the start of the 2004/2005 academic year and helps youths to voice their opinions, find information about health issues, education and careers, or other less serious topics like computer games and music. The name of the site, Jitty, is a Leicestershire slang term for "Alley Way", and is from a dialect sometimes referred to as "Chisit".
The site also has a small Phpbb forum which has around 500 registered users and a small army of moderators and administrators policing the site to keep users safe. Users of the site have the option to attend the meetings held by the County Council to voice their opinions on the website, and on any changes that need to be made.
On the site people can find articles on various subjects written by young people of Leicestershire, such as TV reviews, Movie news, entertainment, Video games, music etc, the list goes on. Any young person in Leicestershire has the right to become an editor and upload their own pieces of work to the site for public viewing. At the moment there are approximately 50 site editors, each working hard to keep the site running smoothly, and to make it as friendly as possible to any person who joins up.
The site is updated regularly with new articles making sure that it stays up to date.
The Jitty is a non-profit making service provided by the County Council. With unique content on issues such as Drug Abuse, Alcohol Abuse, Domestic Violence it has been used on a number of occasions as a resource for teachers in the UK.
