[edit] Band History

[edit] The Very Beginning

The Hush Sound was founded by Greta Salpeter and Bob Morris. At the time, Greta was in 7th grade while Bob Morris was in 10th. In the eyes of many of their peers, Bob and Greta were deemed an "odd couple." Bob had always been a player and performer of rock music, whereas Greta was a classical pianist.

[edit] Acquisition of Additional Members

The band officially formed in late 2004/early 2005, in terms of writing songs which they felt worthy of publication. They were originally going to be called "The Hush," but changed their name to "The Hush Sound" to avoid confusion with a similarly-named rapper. In their early work, they dealt mostly with acoustic music. Once they decided that a piano and guitar were not enough for the sound they wished to achieve, they started searching for a drummer and a bass player willing to join their band. Darren Wilson was among their first contacts in this search, and signed on to handle percussions.

Getting a crude start in a friend’s basement, they invited and soon impressed their future bass player Chris Faller. Chris officially joined the band in February of 2005 after the breakup of his former band, Until Sundown, completing their lineup.

[edit] Independent Work

By the end of March of 2005, The Hush Sound took their music into the studio to record their debut full-length album. They named it "So Sudden"; a reflection on how quickly things were moving for the band. They released their first album with no label support at the time, but nevertheless sold 300 CD's in two nights.

Five months later, the band began playing shows. They soon gained the attention of Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. On the day they were streaming "So Sudden" on purevolume, Ryan Ross of Panic! at the Disco discovered their page and passed it along to Pete Wentz. It is rumored that Wentz, liking what he heard, sent The Hush Sound an email, stating that he was interested in signing them to his Decaydance Records label.

[edit] Acceptance to a Record Label

The Hush Sound was soon signed to Decaydance Records. So Sudden was re-released under the label; and the band soon became a part of the 2006 Black Clouds and Underdogs tour, featuring bands such as Fall Out Boy, From First to Last, Hawthorne Heights and the All-American Rejects. During this time, the band started recording the follow-up to So Sudden, produced by Sean O'Keefe and Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump.

[edit] Tours

Like Vines was released on June 6, 2006. In support of the new record, the band went on a summer tour with label mates Panic! at the Disco. The album has since sold steadily. The band took a month-long break before beginning another tour with Jack's Mannequin, Copeland, and Daphne Loves Derby.

The Hush Sound are currently on their first headlining tour. They are being supported by opening acts This Providence, This Is Me Smiling, and Murder By Death.

As their first headlining tour is coming to an end, The Hush Sound answered a question on their Frequently Asked Questions section about the next tour. Robert Morris answered to expect the next tour around March.

[edit] Snakes on a Plane: The Album

On August 15th of 2006, Decaydance Records teamed up with New Line Records for the official movie soundtrack to Snakes on a Plane. Included on the album is a Tommie Sunshine Brooklyn Fire Retouch version of the song "Wine Red," giving the band a chance to reach a wider audience.
