The History of Sleep is a poetry chapbook by John Jenkinson.
It was the first book of the Basilisk Poetry Series in 2002, published by Basilisk Press.

The book received high marks in the U.S., where Bruce Bond described the poetry as "Generously figurative, smart, delightfully odd," and in England, where New Hope reviewer Polly Bird said Jenkinson "displays an easy mastery of form and a telling precision of phrasing".
