The Heartbreak Kid is a 1972 American film starring Charles Grodin, Jeannie Berlin, and Cybill Shepherd; the film was directed by Elaine May. A romantic comedy, it follows Lenny, a New York Jew (Grodin) who meets and pursues Kelly, a gentile blonde bombshell (Shepherd) while on his honeymoon. His decision to dump his new wife (Berlin) to court this new love interest leads to a near-disastrous trip to Minnesota, where Kelly's father (Albert) is an unrelenting obstacle.
