The Group is a 1966 ensemble film based on the novel by Mary McCarthy about a group of female graduates from a Vassar-like college during the early 1930s. The cast includes Elizabeth Hartman ("A Patch Of Blue"), Shirley Knight ("As Good As It Gets"), Candice Bergen, Joanna Pettet and Joan Hackett. Also look for appearances by Larry Hagman ("Dallas") and Richard Mulligan ("Empty Nest," "Soap"). For its time, the movie touched on some controversial topics, such as free love, lesbianism and mental illness. Directed by Sydney Lumet. Spoofed in MAD Magazine in 1966 as, "The Bunch."
