The Giraffes is a Brooklyn-based punk/metal band formed in 1998. The group's current lineup features guitarist Damien Paris, drummer Andrew Totolos, lead vocalist Aaron Lazar and bassist John Rosenthal, who replaced original bassist Tim Kent in 2002. The Giraffes are known for rowdy live performances and their gnarly backstory. In 2002, Paris was shot in the leg by a fire marshal at White Castle in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Paris himself was ironically charged with assault for this incident. Gypsy singer Lazar suffered two heart attacks in 2004 for which he is in six figures of debt. For some time, the band was managed by rock impresario Calvin Cherry, whose relationship with the band ended after his extradition to Greece on fraud charges.
In 2006, The Giraffes toured alongside Eagles of Death Metal.
