The Gender/Sexuality Rights Association of Taiwan

The Gender/Sexuality Rights Association of Taiwan (GSRAT) is a group in Taiwan who have long been concerned with and worked for gender issues and sexual rights. GSRAT includes lesbians and gays, transgendered persons, multi-sexuals, sexual dissidents, gender/sexual rights activists, AIDS activists, human rights activists, students, lawyers, teachers. Among GSRAT core workforce are several experienced social movement activists whose trajectories began in liberal women’s groups and later moved on to more focused work with gender and sexual minority rights issues.
GSRAT goal is to dismantle the discrimination and oppression of gender and sexual minorities in the social institutions of the family, the education system, politics, the economy and the law. The group aim to collectively struggle against dominant culture’s ignorance of and refusal to see the gender and sexual rights of gender rebels and sexual dissidents.
In 2004, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) presented the Felipa Award to The Gender/Sexuality Rights Association of Taiwan (GSRAT). The Felipa Award recognizes the courage and impact of grassroots groups and leaders dedicated to improving the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and other individuals stigmatized and abused because of their sexuality.
