The Fool and His Money is a forthcoming puzzle game by Cliff Johnson. It is a self-published sequel to the "Game of the Year" 1987 game The Fool's Errand, but has experienced numerous delays. In 2006, Johnson admitted that "I never intended to re-write the game three times from scratch."
Originally announced in January 2003, the game had an expected release date of Halloween 2003. The implication via Johnson's website is usually that the date is "firm", and the website often includes a countdown timer showing the number of days until release. Approximately every six months, Johnson announces via his website or newsletter that the release date has again changed. Various dates that have been announced for release include:
- Halloween 2003
- April 1, 2004 (April Fool's Day)
- Halloween 2004
- July 5, 2005
- Late 2005
- April 1, 2006
- August 7, 2006
- December 4, 2006 (announced July 5, 2006)
- December, 2006 (announced mid-November, 2006)
If/when released, the game will reportedly be available for Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh. The game is available for pre-order; pre-ordering promises to place the names of customers in a list of "Compendium of True Believers" within the game.
