The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place is the third album recorded by post-rock band Explosions in the Sky, released on November 4, 2003 on the Temporary Residence label. The album continues the patterns of the previous albums, with brooding, ominous melodies building into crashing climaxes. It has generally received positive reviews from the public, although one criticism is the lack of instrumentation throughout the album. Indeed, many critics point out that it is difficult to differentiate one track from another. The band themselves have acknowledged this.

The album's closer, "Your Hand In Mine" was adapted for inclusion in the Friday Night Lights soundtrack, along with other original material written for the movie. The song was shortened from its album length of over 8 minutes to just over 4, and was embellished with string accompaniment.

It is their only album in which all the tracks surpass the 8 minute mark.
