The Dupey was the seventeenth episode of the Dilbert animated television series. It originally aired December 7, 1999.

[edit] Plot

Dilbert goes to the local fast food restaurant. There he buys a meal, for this he is offered a "Dupey". When Dilbert asks what a Dupey is, the man behind the counter admits that it doesn't exist yet. Yet it seem millions of people are collecting the Dupey, apparently it is the most popular toy to ever exist. Dilbert questions the stupidity, and ends up punching the employee. It seems to make the employee happy however, probably a joke about the incompetence of workers these days.

When Dilbert arrives, his boss informs everyone that they are to create the Dupey. Eventually they do and it does indeed become the best toy ever. Dilbert keeps the first Dupey for himself, and in a matter of days they are in mass production. Alice declares she has no desire for the Dupey, but secretly has a small filing cabinet full of them.

Then, one day, Dilbert hears that Dupeys are beginning to become less cute, and more ugly and unappealing. He goes home to find that his little furry, loveable, Dupey has become a much uglier creature. Oddly, the mutated Dupey is much more intelligent, unluckily for the Dupey most of the people who bought them were idiots who wanted something cute not smart. All Dupeys except for Dilbert's are thrown away, and begin to be devoured by seagulls. With the help of Dogbert and the Garbageman, they find the Dupeys, only for the Dupeys to leave for a place where they are useful and not scorned for their appearance, which is revealed to be Apple Computer at the end of the episode.
