The Ding Dongs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ding Dongs were an American professional wrestling tag team consisting of Richard Sartain and Jim Evans. Considered one of the biggest gimmick flops in wrestling history, they are known for their short run in World Championship Wrestling in 1989.
The Ding Dongs gimmick was the brainchild of then WCW head Jim Herd who was constantly creating "cartoon"-like gimmicks to compete with the more nationally recognized World Wrestling Federation. It was a gimmick of two masked wrestlers with bells on their costume. Whenever one of the wrestlers began to wear down or was losing the match, the other Ding Dong would ring a little bell that would "pump up" his partner. The team would make their debut at Clash of the Champions VII. The gimmick was met by indifference from the crowds and was panned by other wrestlers and sheet writers alike. They would wrestle only a handful of matches before being disbanded.
