The Czar of the Style Invitational
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Czar was, until December of 2003, the man behind the Style Invitational, the Washington Post's weekly humor contest. He chose all the winners - calling the contest the "last pure meritocracy on earth" - and ruthlessly controlled all aspects of the contest from his hidden lair.
[edit] The Man
Very little is known about the Czar of the Style Invitational. He worked for the Washington Post coming up with the contest ides and winners for every week's contest. He retired in late 2003, giving all the power (and perhaps glory, though this is still unconfirmed) to The Empress of the Style Invitational.
[edit] The Legend
It is said that he developed his humor skills while living with a gang of Puerto Ricans in New York. He is very, very secretive about his identity, saying that "You will not be able to scope out who I am. Give up trying." He is married to a Czarina and has a Czarvitch for a son.
[edit] Further Research
For dedicated Students of The Czar (SOTCZ), perhaps more knowledge is available at one of these websites:
- A Weak Week Interview with the Czar, including a rare picture.
- GopherDrool.com, the only thorough Style Invitational Website. Should contain some useful, bite-sized knowledge.
- The Style Invitational itself, in all its glory, sort of.
