The Cure (1995 film)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cure is a 1995 film starring Brad Renfro and Joseph Mazzello about two boys searching for the cure of AIDS, from which one of them is suffering. It was produced by Eric Eisner and Mark Burg, who has since gained fame as the producer behind the "Saw" films.
In the story, Erik, an adolescent loner with a distant mother, moves into a new area where his next-door neighbours include eleven-year-old Dexter, who contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion. Despite their differences, the two become good friends as Erik seeks a family in Dexter and his genial mother. But when the boys read about a doctor in distant New Orleans who claims to have found a cure for AIDS, they set out on their own down the Mississippi River in the hope of saving Dexter's life.
