The Cooters are a punk metal band from Mississippi. Based out of the northern hill country town of Oxford, the band has been touring and recording since 1993. The Cooters are considered a legendary band in the state, as they have overcome all sorts of adversity, controversy, trademark lawsuits, and even prison sentences in order to keep their music alive and relevant. They have released records on the Minneapolis, Minnesota based anarcho-punk record label Profane Existence, as well as the Hollywood, California label T-Bones Records.
The Cooters music has been described as the “perfect mix of punk and metal with an interesting Southern flavor” by fans of the band, while their lyrics tackle social and political topics, usually in a humorous tongue-in-cheek manner.
