The Coolangatta Gold

The Coolangatta gold is one of the premier events in the Australian sport of Ironman (surf lifesaving). The event is organised by Surf Life Saving Australia.
The event takes place annually near Coolangatta, Queensland over a course of approximately 46km. The 2006 course was as follows:

The event started in 1984 when a film called The Coolangatta Gold was also made. The film starred one of the most famous Ironmen of all time Grant Kenny. The inaugural race was won by Guy Leech. After the 1992 race the event was not held again until 2005.
