[edit] History

The organization was founded in 1890, shortly before the founding of two similar societies, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and the Colonial Dames XVII Century. The National Society of Colonial Dames was founded by those who were descendants of illegitimate children of Benjamin Franklin, both legitimate and illegitimate ancestors are accepted in this organization. Colonial Dames of America only accepts women who descend from legitimate heirs. Colonial Dames XVII Century focuses on ancestors who served during the 17th century in America.
