The Coachmen were an early band that Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth was in. They played very few shows and soon disbanded. Shortly after that stint, Thurston went on and joined Lee Ranaldo in being in the first version of Sonic Youth which included a different drummer. That failed and then they found Kim Gordon and Steve Shelly and were thus Sonic Youth.
