The Clue of the Screeching Owl is Volume 41 in the original Hardy Boys book series published by Grosset & Dunlap.

Frank and Joe go to the Pocono Mountains to investigate the mystery of a legendary witch who stalks Black Hollow seeking vengeance. It has allegedly returned after a hundred years of absence. The boys, along with Chet Morton, embark on the mission after an invitation from a long time friend Captain Maguire. They discover upon their arrival that the captain is missing. They immediately go in his search, but fails. After a day they discover a man living in the woods, Walter Donner. He lived in a camouflaged cabin, very well done at that.
