The Class Notes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Class Notes (often referred to on campus as simply "The Notes"), founded in 1983, are Cornell University's oldest active co-ed a cappella group. Originally singing mostly vocal jazz, the Class Notes now sing a wide variety of genres, including pop, R&B, jazz, alternative rock, and country. The Class Notes have two major concerts each year, one in the fall—Classified—and one in the spring—Cuttin' Class. On April 24, 2004, the Class Notes performed Cuttin' Class XX, where over 50 alumni attended and performed as several separate guest groups for the concert. The Class Notes have traveleled extensively, touring California, Mexico, the Bahamas, Florida, Washington D.C., many cities in the Northeast and at a variety of other colleges as the guest group for other collegiate a cappella groups. As of Spring 2006, the Class Notes have 249 arrangements in record and 138 alumni, including current members.

[edit] Concerts
The Class Notes perform an annual fall concert, entitled "Classified," and one in the spring, entitled "Cuttin' Class." Cuttin' Class concerts are numbered with roman numerals, while Classified concerts are labeled with the year of performance. The Fall concert used to be called "All for a Dollar" until 2000, when the group started charging more than $1 for admission and changed the name to "Classified"; Classified 2000 was the first "Classified" concert.
The Class Notes in the 1980s and early 1990s did not perform two annual concerts, instead performing at the annual Jamboree (in addition to Cuttin' Class), a concert consisting of all the a cappella groups on Cornell's campus (only the Cayuga's Waiters, the Hangovers, Nothing But Treble, the Touchtones and The Class Notes until the 1990s, when other a cappella groups formed on campus). Jamboree has not existed for some time now, though the inception of the A Cappella Advisory Council (ACAC) at Cornell in 2003 has resulted in the formation of a fall concert in the similar vein of Jamboree, where all (member) groups perform, the most recent of which (2005) was entitled "A Cappella Night Live."
[edit] Attire
The Class Notes are known for their use of formal-wear, with tuxedos for men and black dresses for women, though they primarily use this attire for the second half (post-intermission) of Cuttin' Class concerts, and for formal performances including reunions, large-scale on-campus gigs and some away gigs.
