The Capricorns
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Capricorns are an indie rock band consisting of Heather Lynn and Kirsten Nordine. They began playing music in their bedrooms on vintage Casio keyboards purchased at garage sales. The girls are partial to settings such as synth bass, harpsichord, and pipe organ. Combining slightly angsty, romantic lyrics with fast tempos and repeated patterns, they write catchy pop songs. They are originally from the small town of Grayslake, IL. The Capricorns are also categorized as a synth-rock band.
Originally, Heather and Kirsten played music together purely for their own enjoyment and have continued to show little commitment to the band as an actual job or money maker.
Heather Lynn on their band's success: "When we started making music, it was just for fun. We knew that Kirsten would be moving away in a few months and i would be focused on my writing. We didn't anticipate that people would be so into our music or that we would ever end up putting out records. It's really rad that people like us so much, but because we didn't start a band to become famous or to get signed or whatever we aren't necessarily motivated by the same things that other bands are." Their fanbase quickly built around them, leading them to travel to Cincinnati, OH to record their first album, The Capricorns Are Gonna Get You, now out of print. On their own label they released it on cassette. [www.allmusic.com source 1] source 2
Jason Barnett, of Paroxysm Records, heard the record, and offered Heather Lynn and Kirsten Nordine a record contract, persuading them to sign with his record company.
Kirsten is living in New York as of April 2006 while Heather is in Illinois currently attending college and writing her book, The Flying Machine, which she has been writing for the past five years. source 3
