The Boulevard at the Capital Centre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Boulevard at the Capital Centre is an open-air shopping center located on the site of the former US Airways Arena, originally known as the Capital Centre, next to the Largo Town Center Washington Metro station (the eastern terminus of the Blue Line) in Landover, Maryland. The facility has more than 70 establishments.
These include the Magic Johnson Theatres (with stadium seating and some of the largest screens in the D.C. metro area), Borders Books & Music, Circuit City, Linens 'N Things, DSW Shoe Warehouse, Harold Pener Man of Fashion, the Men's Wearhouse, Kay Jewelers, the Classic Woman, Ashley Stewart, Nine West, Only Nails, Technicolor Salon & Spa, and the Gallery of African Wildlife/Contemporary Art.
Eateries include the Red Star Tavern, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Kobe Japanese Steak House, Gladys Knight & Ron Winans Restaurant, Chuck E. Cheese's, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Chick-fil-A, Uno Chicago Grill, Cold Stone Creamery, Golden Corral, and Starbucks.
Although "The Blvd", as it is known by locals, has many attractive stores, it lacks large department stores such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's, etc.
[edit] Criticisms
Crime, and the perception of crime, has frightened off some potential shoppers. A murder allegedly occurred on site during a fight amongst teenagers in November 2005.[1] Foot traffic might be high, but that doesn't necessarily add up to higher sales.[citation needed] An upscale Chinese Restaurant named Blu Bamboo, adjacent to the theatre entrance, went bankrupt and closed after only a year in business.[citation needed] A note on the auction site read "great concept - wrong location".[citation needed]
