The Beevnicks is a webcomic by cartoonist Owen Dunne, better known for his older webcomic, You Damn Kid!. It was originally started January 16, 2000 but Dunne stopped drawing it in 2003. Known as the "Original Beevnicks", it consisted of very simple clip art drawings copied and pasted in a paint program. The characters rarely changed facial expressions.

On May 1, 2006, Dunne suddenly relaunched The Beevnicks and it replaced "You Damn Kid" as the primary comic. The new version of "The Beevnicks" involved more background and foreground detail, but still largely copied and pasted drawings. On August 1, The Beevnicks moved to beevnicks.com and reformatted his "You Damn Kid" site, youdamnkid.com. "You Damn Kid" updates semiweekly, and "The Beevnicks" updates daily. Dunne has gradually introduced new characters into the newly detailed Beevnicks world.

"The Beevnicks" is a gag-a-day strip, but every so often Dunne will introduce a rather ludicrous story arc, one that typically involves either Tom or Lorranie Beevnick in some form of deviant sexual behavior, a subsequent murder or crime to cover up this behavior, and a subsequent investigation by Detective Banion and the Tiverton Falls police. Dunne's usual method of wrapping up these story arcs is to have them be a dream sequence or fantasy, and return the strip to status quo ante.

[edit] Major characters

Tom Beevnick
Tom is the father of the Beevnick household, known for his constant sexual arousal which is always rejected by his wife, Lorraine. Tom works in human resources in an accounting firm, Jannel Lannon, though this is ironic because he constantly sexually harasses other workers. Tom once successfully sued the company so he could get paid masturbation breaks, claiming being "constantly erect" qualified as disability under the Americans With Disabilities Act. Tom is known for his neverending grin and closed eyes. He takes on the idiot father role in the comic.
Lorraine Beevnick
Lorraine is the strict mother of the Beevnicks. She rules the household with an iron fist. She constantly rejects Tom's sexual advances, as well as constantly insulting his stupidity. Lorraine is a devout Catholic, following the tradition of Dunne's You Damn Kid. She suffers from C.C.A.D. (compulsive clown attraction disorder)
Billy Beevnick
Also called "Billy Bighead" because of his large head, the Beevnick's middle child Billy sarcastically makes fun of Tom's stupidity in a way reminiscent of Bart Simpson. At times he seems to be following in Tom's footsteps, but at other times he questions Lorraine's rule of the house and Catholic teachings.
Rose Beevnick
Youngest daughter of Tom and Lorraine. She does not make as many appearances as the other characters, but is the catalyst of the occasional story arc. She was briefly "replaced"—Dunne chose to use different clip art to represent Rose, but eventually turned this into a story arc involving an alien invasion of Tiverton Falls.
Olivia Beevnick
Oldest child of Tom and Lorraine, Olivia was introduced in May 2006 to act as an adversary to Lorraine (in the words of Owen Dunne). She is the sexually promiscuous rebel daughter of the Beevnicks, and this resulted in her being sent for a year to a Catholic school girl academy. As of yet, though, this has had no change on her personality. Olivia's full name is Olivia Newton Beevnick, named after Olivia Newton-John, Tom's apparent dream girl. Olivia was only shown in profile until 7 November 2006, with her hair obscuring most of her face except her nose. She appears to have an unusually high forehead similar to her brother, and occasionally wears glasses.
Detective Banion
The local police detective of Tiverton Falls, Banion is known for his habit for prostitutes. Like Tom, Banion can be exceptionally stupid at times, as the entire police department is known to be slow acting. Banion seems to have a distorted sense of reality as well. When asked by Billy who his heroes were as a detective, Banion listed Joe Friday, Sipowitz, Rockford, and Columbo. Billy then asked if he had any non-fictional heroes, and Banion listed Batman. Banion often opens murder cases with the question 'What Would Columbo Do?' or W.W.C.D.
Father O'Malley
Referred to as simply "Father" throughout the strip, Father is a pedophile priest. This has led him to become a running gag, as he is constantly at the expense of pedophilia related questions by Billy. However, he was apparently murdered by Carol after he attempted to blackmail her after her confession.
Officer Gunderson
Gunderson exists mainly to poke fun at Banion. He also runs a Liberace fan site, and is insistent that Liberace was only flamboyant, not gay.
Chief O'Houlihan
The Chief of Detectives who exists to make odd, sometimes non-sequitur comments to Banion. Known at the club as "the towel rack" for his over-indulgence of male enhancement products.

[edit] Secondary characters

Layla and Heather Sweet
Layla was originally Tom's secretary (the one who inspired him to pursue paid masturbation breaks) and Heather was her twin sister. The two cured Tom's severe case of blue balls in an unexplained way (that involved gratuitous nudity) and were later revealed to be assistants of Hymen Blaufis, and part of a plot to give blue balls to the entire town. (Resolved by making it Billy's fantasy sequence.)
Gay Uncle Joe
Billy's gay uncle.
Rollo the Clown
Rollo's actual name is James Carter, and he was an FBI agent. He was found dead soon after having had sex with Lorraine.
Dr. Hymen Blaufis
(Or Blueface, or Bluefish.) An evil clown who had a thing for Lorraine in clown college, but lost his chance when Lorraine met Tom. Blaufis revenged himself by kidnapping and killing Lorraine. (Resolved by making it Billy's fantasy sequence.)
Davis Bauer
One of the wealthiest and most successful men in the country, Davis was introduced in June 2006 as Carol's husband, and Lorraine's brother in law. He was CEO of Manlyco, a manly products company. However, Davis was secretly homosexual, and when he found out Tom knew this secret, Davis died of an overdose of Oxycontin and calming salve. However, he was apparently murdered by Carol.
Carol Bauer
Lorraine's twin sister, introduced in June 2006. She was married to one of the wealthiest and successful men in the country, Davis Bauer. However, because of Davis' secret homosexuality, Carol was attracted to Tom, who seemingly was the only one who knew of Davis' sexuality. Carol killed Davis, making it look like an overdose, and drugged Lorraine, knocking her out and enabling her to make "smoking monkey jungle love" with Tom, who could not tell them apart.
Doc
The family doctor in the "Original Beevnicks" strips.
Dr. Pock
The county coroner and "head of brainial surgery" at the hospital, Pock's suspicious behavior (such as wearing mirrors on his shoes to look up women's dresses because he's "also the head of OB-GYN") suggests otherwise.
