The Attic Project are a ska-punk band from Leeds, United Kingdom.
[edit] Background
The band formed in Leeds in 2004, following the break-up of Attic, a punk band from Norton-on-Derwent, North Yorkshire. Attic vocalist Mike Akers, guitarist C.J. Pote and drummer Andrew Pote were joined by new bassist Andy Walton to create a band with much heavier reggae and ska overtones than those seen with their previous band. Their sound is often compared to that of Long Beach, California reggae-punks Sublime. They played their first gig on June 13th, 2004 at the Joseph's Well venue in Leeds city centre. Andrew Pote left the band in September 2006 to pursue a career as a computer programmer. He was replaced by Tom Walquer a month later, after the band and their management posted several advertisments for the drummer vacancy on Myspace.com and in the local press.
[edit] Recent Achievements
The band are most noted in Leeds for winning the Leeds City Council- sponsored Bright Young Things competition in 2006, and having their track Anything You Want used in a promotional film for the city which played during the half time breaks of England's games in the 2006 World Cup on the big screen erected in Leeds' Millennium Square. They opened the main stage at Badfest 2006, a three- day punk and ska festival headlined by Bad Manners, after the festival organisers received a CD featuring Anything You Want free with an industry magazine. They also completed an entirely self- funded tour of the UK in September 2005, and released their debut EP (entitled How's My Driving?) with Elton John engineer Stuart Epps as producer six months later.
