The American School Foundation of Guadalajara

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The American Institution Foundation of Guadalajara (ASFG) is a school of 1420 students in pre-school through twelfth grade, it is the only US accredited school in Guadalajara. ASFG has the best (and only) British library in Guadalajara and the second largest collection of books published in English among the private schools in Mexico.

[edit] Sports

In ASFG there are a large variety of available sports. These include swimming, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and fencing. There is also a sporting program at the school where the students participating in basketball play against other International schools across the country.

In Pre-grades and Elementary there is no sporting program because the schools believe that the children that age are not old enough to be able to travel across the country even if they are supervised.

In Middle school or Jr. High the students participate in the program by traveling to Durango where they stay with host families.

In High school the schools students do not travel, the other schools come to ASFG and stay with host families there.

The trophies that the schools can win are 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place. As well as the trophies each player on the team receives a medal. The biggest trophy however is the sportsmanship trophy.

[edit] Grounds

The grounds of ASFG are very large but crowded. There are two entrances to the school where students, parents, and teachers have to pass their ID cards with an electronic sensor inside of the cards over a laser that will sense the sensor inside the card and unlock the door allowing the people inside the school. The front entrance (the entrance where most of the students are dropped off by parents or guardians) leads opens up to the soccer pitch and track. To the left is the basketball courts and one of the lunch areas and behind them are the Middle school classrooms. Just in front of the basketball courts however is the office buildings that contain the Administration offices. Behind the Middle school classes there is the auditorium and the high school class rooms. To the right of the soccer pitch is the Elementary classrooms. Behind the Elementary class rooms there is a newly built green area that contains a small play area for the Pre-grade students. Directly in front of the soccer pitch is the second lunch area. Above the lunch area on the second floor is the Elementary library. Behind the Elementary library are the computer and art classrooms and to their right is the High school library. If you continue to go straight through the second lunch area you get to the Gymnasium and Pool and second entrance.
