The Amazing Race 1 | The Amazing Race 3 |
The Amazing Race 2 was the second installment of the reality television show, The Amazing Race. It premiered on March 11, 2002 and ended on May 15, 2002.
This season is responsible for introducing many of the elements, although cosmetic, that would give The Amazing Race the tone and feel that would be familiar in all subsequent seasons. Among these are the use of the clue box stand, the pit stop mat, Phil Keoghan being on hand to greet all teams at the pit stop, and a more frenetic pacing to the show.

[edit] Trivia
[edit] General
- This was the only race (besides the Family Edition) to not visit Europe, only connecting flights from South America to Africa passed through Europe.
- This is the first season to have episode titles be quotes said by either the host or the racers
[edit] In-Race
- Blake and Paige's jeep broke down during Leg 2 causing them to finish last. However, Blake threatened to sue the production for not providing a time credit, since the rules never fully explained the arrangements in the event of a vehicle failure. Consequently, CBS' lawyers stepped in and awarded Blake and Paige with a time credit, thus eliminating Hope and Norm. Henceforth, from Season 3 onward, the rules stated that teams needing a replacement vehicle would not be given any time credit.
- In Leg 3, Phil waited over 24 hours for Peggy and Claire to arrive at the Pit Stop--the longest amount of time Phil has waited for the last team to arrive.
- In Leg 3, Leg 4 and Leg 7 Peggy & Claire, Shola & Doyin and Mary & Peach did not perform the final tasks and proceeded directly to the Pit Stop. They were eliminated in the order mentioned.
- In Leg 12, what the show claims is an "old sugar mill" is really the former campus of Maui High School outside of Paia.
- No Detour clue was shown in Leg 13. As no team is shown onscreen reading the Snow Cat instructions at Trapper's Creek, it is speculated that all teams simply chose the same Detour option here, and the other choice was edited out. [1]
- In the final footrace to the finish in Leg 13, Tara & Wil had the lead but were passed by Chris & Alex. This marked the closest finish in The Amazing Race history. The 2nd close finish happened in Season 8.
[edit] Post Race
- Tara and Wil have remained business partners after the Race.
- Tara currently runs a crafting/sewing business online called FunktionHome.com. She has since remarried and has a little girl.
- Gary is currently an editor for The Amazing Race.
