The Advertiser (Bendigo)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Advertiser is the daily (Monday-Saturday) newspaper for Bendigo and is published by Rural Press.

First published in 1853, The Advertiser has undergone many changes since its inception, including a move to tabloid form and a change in name from 'The Bendigo Advertiser' to just 'The Advertiser.'

Currently, The Advertiser employs almost 100 staff, including seven journalists and three sports journalists.

Supplements to The Advertiser:

  • Monday: The Reader (Education)
  • Tuesday: Loop (Youth issues- written, designed and edited entirely by young people. Produced in partnership with Lead On)
  • Wednesday: Un! News (University news from La Trobe's Bendigo Campus
  • Friday: TV Guide and Footy Focus
  • Saturday: Property Guide, More, AutoGuide and JobsGuide.

The main competition comes from The Bendigo Weekly, which is staffed by a number of Walkley award winning ex-Advertiser staff - and a couple who aren't. The Weekly is published on Fridays and is sent to homes, free of charge. The Advertiser has since established an inferior project, CV Week, which used to arrive in mailboxes at the same time as The Bendigo Weekly.
