The Adam Carolla Project

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Adam Carolla Project, which aired Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC, was/is a home improvement show featuring comedian Adam Carolla. Carolla, before gaining celebrity via Loveline and The Man Show, worked as a carpenter for a number of years. In this series he returns to the profession by purchasing his childhood home and paying all expenses out-of-pocket to have it renovated. His team consisted of his actual construction buddies ("My band of idiots."), who did the majority of the work. The show was a mix of celebreality television and real-life construction.

The team became known for its laziness despite being on-camera the entire day. They failed four of five building inspections the first time, installed the pool incorrectly, showed up late, slept on the job, got high on the job, skinny dipped on the job, and poured condiments on each others heads. They had their tools stolen and several of them quit only to be cajoled back to the site by Carolla's charismatic wit, charm, and expensive cars.

One item to come out of the show (episode 12 airing 20 Dec 2005) is worthy of note: the Recycl-A-Rolla. The device consists of a 3-inch "ABS" PVC pipe fitted inside of a cabinet (or in a similar manner) at an approximate 30-degree downward angle. The end of the pipe is fitted through a hole drilled through the outer wall at about 1.25 feet above the ground. Underneath the hole, one (according to Adam) should put a recycling bin. The pipe acts as a conduit that carries empty bottles and cans from the kitchen directly into the recycle bin outside. The name is the brain child of Jimmy Kimmel who also has one installed in his home. Survivor host Jeff Probst is said to be a fan of the Recycl-A-Rolla as well.

[edit] Finale

The two-part season finale aired on December 20, 2005, and included both the last weeks of construction on the house and the final sale of the house for $1,008,000. The last episode had several teaser moments where Adam was being pitched another house to remodel, and the editing left it ambiguous whether Adam (and his crew) will be back for a second season.
