The Act is a Broadway musical by the writing team of Kander and Ebb with a book by George Furth. The show opened 29 October 1977 at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway and played for 233 performances. There were 6 previews. The show closed 1 July 1978. The musical was directed by Martin Scorsese and starred Liza Minnelli as Michelle Craig. The show garnered 6 Tony Award nominations for Best Original Score, Best Actor in a Musical (Barry Nelson), Best Actress in a Musical (Liza Minnelli), Best Costume Design (Halston), Best Lighting Design (Tharon Musser) and Best Choreography (Ron Lewis). Liza Minnelli won the Tony for best Actress.
