Talk:The Waffle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If Broadbent actually coined the term "waffle" while in Parliament I'd like to see a citation from Hansard. I suspect the claim is apocryphal, particularly since Broadbent was only peripherally around the Waffle at its inception and was certainly not a supporter by the time the party ordered it to dissolve (he had run for leader himself in 1971 rather than support the Waffle candidate). The story I always heard was that the term originated at a meeting drafting the manifesto for an independent socialist candidate, not by Broadbent in parliament, and I've heard conflicting claims about who actually coined the phrase. Can someone confirm the 1974 as the year of dissolution for the disestablishment by year category? The article is a bit hazy specifying only that it dissolved after that year's election. Thanks! Samaritan 00:15, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
