Survivor: The Amazon was the sixth incarnation of the popular television reality show Survivor. It was filmed in 2002 and 13 episodes aired weekly in the United States on CBS from February 13 - May 11, 2003.
Sixteen people were sent to the Amazon to win one million dollars. The two initial tribes were the all-female Jaburu and the all-male Tambaqui. They were eventually merged into the Jacare tribe. It started out and ended as a battle of the sexes. The winner of Survivor 6 was Jenna Morasca, a 21-year-old swimsuit model from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The season finale including the announcement of the winner and a live reunion of all the season's contestants at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City, on David Letterman's Late Show stage which was decorated to look like the set in the Amazon.
The season is noted for having the first handicapped reality show contestant, the hearing impaired Christy Smith.
Another notable moment in this season was a challenge that tested players' endurance against temptation. While all the players were standing on a pillar, in a typical "stand till you can't anymore" Immunity challenge, the players were told that they'd be tempted with various rewards for hopping off voluntarily. Almost immediately, Jenna Morasca and Heidi Strobel offered to take off all of their clothes if they were provided with chocolate and peanut butter. Probst complied with their request, and a very naked (and very blurry) Jenna and Heidi exited the challenge and ate a plate of Oreo cookies and peanut butter. Their escapades earned them a cover shot and a nude pictorial in Playboy.

[edit] All-Stars
Rob Cesternino and Jenna Morasca would return for Survivor: All Stars. Jenna was on the Mogo Mogo tribe and decided to exit the game in Episode 3 to be with her dying mother. Her mother would pass away 8 days after she left the game. In Episode 4, Rob was booted from the Chapera tribe. His gameplay in this season made him a huge target.
[edit] Elimination notes
- Ryan Aiken - Along with Daniel, was given most of the blame for losing Immunity for Tambaqui. He was also viewed (again along with Daniel) as being too lazy around camp.
- Janet Koth - Janet struggled with feeling ill during the very first episode - and it seemed to carry into the second. Also, a granola bar was discovered at camp, and Janet was blamed (by tribemate Jeanne) for smuggling it into camp.
- Daniel Lue - He didn't get along with the older tribe members. Also, he never redeemed himself from the lazy image he had garnered in the first episode.
- Joanna Ward - An alliance of four was spawned (Jenna-Heidi-Shawna-Deena) that didn't include Joanna. Some of the girls felt they were being persecuted by Joanna for being good-looking. She was also thought of as a threat. Her religious preaching and rudeness to Christy annoyed some tribe members.
- Jeanne Hebert - The tribes were shuffled, and though Heidi had agreed to vote with Christy and Jeanne against Butch, she was coerced into joining the men in voting off Jeanne and felt that she couldn't trust her either.
- Shawna Mitchell - Shawna's demise truly began when she wanted to throw in the towel - this seemed to diminish the loyalty Jenna, Heidi and Deena had for Shawna. Though she recovered at the tribal switch, she was starting to form a relationship with Alex; Deena and Rob felt they needed to be split up.
- Roger Sexton - Roger was widely viewed as bossy and irritating, and the women considered him to be quite sexist. A new alliance flexed its muscle as they voted off Roger - 7-3.
- Dave Johnson - One of the minority three that didn't vote for Roger, Dave was both outside the alliance and seen as an incredible threat.
- Deena Bennett - Though she was part of the majority alliance, she plotted against Alex without several members' consent and was thusly overthrown.
- Alex Bell - In a final four alliance with Rob, Jenna, and Heidi, Alex told Rob that when it got down to four, Alex would join the women and vote off Rob. In response, Rob got together with Matt, Christy, and Butch to take out Alex.
- Christy Smith - Christy refused to commit to either the men or the women. When Jenna gave Heidi Immunity, Matt and Rob decided against merely going to Jenna, and both voted for Christy. She was eliminated 4-2.
- Heidi Strobel - Heidi was seen as more threatening than Jenna (Jenna was sick) in challenges, and the two were outside the mens' alliance.
- Butch Lockley - When Jenna won immunity, Matt and Rob decided to stick together and vote for Butch - Jenna was persuaded to join them.
- Rob Cesternino - Jenna won the Final Immunity despite Rob's attempts at making a deal with her. She professed she was "taking the threat with her," as she wanted the jury to believe she was bold, but she eliminated Rob on the grounds that she knew he would have beaten her.
- Matthew von Ertfelda - Matt was considered by the jury to be dependent on Rob and played more of a survival game than a strategic one. His responses to most of the questions weren't direct or well-spoken. Only Butch voted for him.
- Jenna Morasca - Was considered by the jury as the smarter, more strategic player between her and Matt. Her responses to the questions were strong. Won in an overwhelming 6-1 victory with the votes of Rob, Heidi, Christy, Alex, Deena, and Dave.
