[edit] Fair use for Boys of Summer (The Wire episode)

This image, TheWire32.jpg, is being linked here; though the picture is subject to copyright I (Opark 77) feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. it is a promotional screenshot from a television series;
  2. it does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the DVD of the show in any way;
  3. copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the program because it is low resolution;
  4. the image is accompanied by a description of the characters role and critical commentary of their importance on the show.
  5. the image is significant because it identifies the titular group of starring characters.

This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots

qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
