[edit] Production

The film was originally scheduled to be released worldwide in 2007 but Sony backed out. It was then moved to Paramount (along with the US rights to Beowulf), who also backed out. Universal Pictures (which co-owns with Paramount United International Pictures, the worldwide distributor of films by Paramount and Universal) will fully finance and distribute Hellboy 2, the Guillermo del Toro-directed sequel to the 2004 comic book adaptation. The studio picks up a project orphaned by Revolution Studios, which made the original and distributed through its deal at Columbia Pictures. With Revolution out of business, the sequel became available and Universal slotted it for summer 2008. Lawrence Gordon, Mike Richardson, Lloyd Levin and Roth will produce the film, Mike Mignola co-produces and Chris Kenney is executive producer. Production starts in April in Budapest and London. Del Toro is also focusing on the production of Hellboy animated.
