Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled is a 2005 music album by Melissa Etheridge, released by Island Records. It featured 17 tracks from her 17-year career, five of which were newly recorded. Oddly, eight of the other 12 tracks were specially remixed for this compilation, and therefore do not represent the "hit single" versions of the songs.

There was some confusion when the album was released over the track listing. Many websites listed the song "Breathe" as being on the album, but "Lucky" was included instead. This confused many fans because "Breathe" was a commercial success for Etheridge and is widely accepted as once of her best songs, while "Lucky" was never released as a single.
[edit] Chart Success
The album peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200. With the release of the album, Melissa also released the single "Refugee", a cover of the Tom Petty song. The song was not a radio success and reached #96 on the Pop 100. Also released for radio was "I Run For Life". This song was recorded new for the album and was written about Melissa's struggle with breast cancer. The song enjoyed some radio success, reaching #80 on the Pop 100 and #10 on the Adult Contemproary chart. Melissa Etheridge does not have the immense selling power that she once did, but her greatest hits collection was certified Gold in December 2005 for shipping over 500,000 copies, her first Gold certification since Breakdown in 1999.
