Grand Prix (Magic: The Gathering)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grand Prix (or GP) are a series of high-scale Magic: The Gathering tournaments held at various major cities worldwide. Unlike the Pro Tour, Grand Prix are open to all players.
Grand Prix are essentially high-scale Pro Tour Qualifiers, but are attended by amateurs and pros alike. The top 16 players in an individual Grand Prix, or the top 8 teams in a team Grand Prix, qualify for the Pro Tour that the Grand Prix feeds. Note that some of the top finishers may have already been qualified.
[edit] Format
The format of the Grand Prix matches the current Pro Tour Qualifier season. For limited GP, day 1 is sealed deck, and day 2 is booster draft.
Regardless of the play format, advancement works like so:
- At individual GP, the top 64 players (or 128 if there are 800 or more registered participants) from day 1 advance to day 2.
- At team GP, the top 20 teams (or 30 if there are more than 225 registered teams) from day 1 advance to day 2.
