Tharok

Tharok is a fictional DC Comics supervillain, an enemy of the Legion of Super-Heroes and the leader of the Fatal Five. The group was introduced in Adventure Comics #352 (1967), and created by Jim Shooter.

Tharok was a small-time crook, who tried to impress his bosses by stealing a small nuclear device. It detonated unexpectedly, vaporizing one-half of his body. The people of his world, holding life sacred, rebuilt him using robotic parts. This boosted his intelligence dramatically, but left his evil tendencies unchecked. In his early appearances he somehow wore clothing that only covered the organic half of his body.

Following the Zero Hour Legion reboot, Tharok was again introduced as a member of the Fatal Five, in Legion of Superheroes #78 (March 1998). In this version he stole a powerful solvent rather than a nuclear device, and when the police shot at him the container was punctured. The solvent severed every molecular bond on the left hand side of his body. A brilliant surgeon rebuilt him as a cyborg, however Tharok killed him. Tharok later upgraded his robot half, giving it more built in weaponry.

Tharok has yet to be seen in the current version of the Legion.

The Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends episode, The X-Men Adventure features a villain known as Cyberiad. While Cyberiad is exclusive to the cartoon, his designs are greatly similar to Tharok.[1]

Tharok has appeared in an episode of Justice League Unlimited along with the other Fatal Five. He was voiced by Tomas Arana.

In the Legion of Super Heroes animated series, he is again a member of the Fatal Five, this time voiced by David Lodge.
