Vinod (Mohanlal) turns mentally ill after Anitha (Lisy), his love, dies. He is admitted to an institution managed by Dr. Ravindran (M.G. Soman). With the help of Dr. Savithri (Karthika), daughter of Dr. Ravindran, and Dr. Unnikrishnan (Nedumudi Venu) they help him return to a normal life, while love blooms between Savithri and Vinod. But Dr. Ravindran is against their marriage as he has already arranged the marriage of Savithri with Hari (Mukesh). When he finds that Vinod won't budge, Dr. Ravindran performs a surgery on Vinod that puts him into a state of coma. Unable to stand the sight of Vinod lying in the pitiable state, Dr. Unnikrishnan kills Vinod. He then faces Dr. Ravindran, scolds him and tells him everything he did. Savithri who overheard this loses her mental control and is admitted to the same hospital as the patient.
