Tezpur University

Tezpur University was established as an Indian Central University by an Act of Parliament in 1994. In order to understand the functions and duties of this organisation, one should look at its objectives: "The University shall endeavour through education, research, training and extension to play a positive role in the development of the North Eastern Region, and based on the rich heritage of the region, to promote and advance the culture of the people of the State of Assam and its human resources". And also, to develop the intellectual, academic and cultural development of the people of Assam. The University campus is at Napaam about 15 km east of Tezpur, the capital of the Sonitpur District of Assam.

The institute is situated in a scenic place called Napam surrounded by greenery and wih many historic as well as tourist places nearby, including Ganesh Ghat, Agnigarh etc.
The Department of Electronics at Tezpur University is the first of its kind in India to introduce an interdisciplinary Master of Technology programme in Bioelectronics. The first class graduated in June 2006.
