Texas Homecare, founded in 1972, was a DIY chain acquired by J Sainsbury in 1995 from Ladbrokes to treble the size of its Sainsbury's Homebase subsidiary.

Sainsbury's later sold Homebase to Schroder Ventures for around £900m, in March 2000, who late sold it to The Argos Retail Group, part of GUS plc. Following the merger of GUS in October 2006 it now forms part of the FTSE-listed Home Retail Group (formerly Argos Retail Group).

They used a mythical person called "Texas Tom" in advertising - similar to how Toys R Us use the Geoffrey character.
