Tetra Xenono Gold
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tetra Xenono Gold(II) or AuXe42+ is an ion (specifically a cation) with its atoms in a square planar configuration. It is found in the compound AuXe42+(Sb2F11-)2, and the AuXe42+ ion is stabilised by interactions with the fluoride atoms of the counterion. Tetra Xenono Gold(II) is unusual in that it has the relatively inert xenon atom as a transition metal ligand. It can be produced by reduction of AuF3 in the presence of fluoroantimonic acid and xenon, and crystallised at low temperature.
