Testarossa Vineyards

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Testarossa Vineyards is located in Los Gatos, California approximately sixty miles south of San Francisco. It founded in 1993 by Rob and Diana Jensen. The name Testarossa was a nickname given to Rob when he was a young university student studying in Italy. They winery was the former site of the Mirassou Champagne cellars.

Testarossa is dedicated to making small lots of vineyard-designated wines from only best vineyards in the cool ocean-influenced counties of Monterey, Santa Barbara and Sonoma Counties. They receive the majority of their high quality fruit from the Bien Nacido Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. In Monterey County they have long-term relationships with the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard and the Pisoni Vineyard, both in the east-facing Santa Lucia Highlands Appellation, and, since 1999, with Rosella's Vineyard and Garys' Vineyard. Also in Monterey County, Testarossa is the first winery to produce a vineyard-designated Chardonnay from the Michaud Vineyard, farmed and owned by former 20-year Chalone Winemaker Michael Michaud. Recently they have begun to purchase grapes from Clos Pepe Vineyard, in the Santa Ynez Valley, and are also closely working with three new Pinot Noir vineyards in Sonoma County.
