Terry Meiners
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Terry Meiners is a radio personality appearing on WHAS (AM) in Louisville, Kentucky. His show, Terry Meiners and Company, airs weekly, Monday-Friday. Meiners is known for his strong opinions about news, politics, and just about everything else as well. His views are traditionally conservative, but he's considerably more moderate than personalities like Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura Schlessinger and Ann Coulter. And unlike those personalities, Meiners' show doesn't rely on monologues and listener calls, relying more on comedy bits and guest interviews, interspersed with local news, weather and traffic reports.
Among the many personalities that Meiners spoofs are former college basketball coaches Joe B. Hall and Denny Crum. He typically spoofs Kentucky Wildcats fans to be very redneck and stereotypical, making Meiners unpopular amongst fans. Many believe Meiners is a Louisville Cardinals fan, but he denies true alliegence to either side. Meiners also has other popular skits, which include Miss Shirley, a stereotypical black woman, Former Governor Paul Patton, Mayor Jerry Abramson, pop culture, as well as shining a humorous side to many issues.
Meiners' show airs daily on WHAS 840 in Louisville, KY, from 3PM to 7PM. His show is easily the top rated talk show in the Louisville market, and usually ties or beats WAMZ, a local music station. However, Meiners is criticized by fans for his frequent absences and vacations. Local personality and co-hosts of the Saturday Morning Show on WHAS, Mel Rexroat and her husband, Ron Fisher, sit in for him in his absence.
Before his move to WHAS in 1985, Meiners worked with Ron Clay as the co-host of the morning drive-time program on a local rock station, WQMF-FM. The two were known in Louisville for edgy humor that wasn't to be found elsewhere at the time. Before that, Meiners was a disc jockey for WLRS-FM from 1981-1983.
Meiners is also known throughout the area as a commercial "pitchman," advertsing numerous local companies.
Meiners also hosts a remote at a different location every Friday morning on Good Morning Kentuckiana, the morning show which airs every weekday on WHAS-TV. Meiners is also the primary on-air host for the WHAS Crusade for Children, the long-running annual local telethon benefitting children's charities.
Terry has two sons from his first marriage, Maxwell and Simon.
