[edit] Player Career
Crowley was once a player for the Orioles. Crowley played between 1969 and 1983; for every season except 1974 (Cincinnati Reds), 1975 (Reds), part of 1976 (Atlanta Braves), and 1983 (Montreal Expos), Crowley was an Oriole. He was a backup first baseman/outfielder/designated hitter. In fact, when designated hitter rule was implemented, he was the first Oriole to fulfill this role. However, he was best known during his playing career for being a pinch hitter. His 108 career pinch-hits is still the 12th-most all-time.
[edit] Peers
Other players noted for their pinch-hitting ability who went on to be hitting coaches are Gerald Perry (the Pittsburgh Pirates' hitting coach until 2005) and Dave Magadan (the current hitting coach for the Boston Red Sox).
[edit] Personal Notes
He attended Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus, before being drafted by the Orioles in 1966.
