[edit] Early life
Born in Manchester, England, he grew up near Brooks's Bar in Old Trafford and went to a local grammar school, St Bede's College, Manchester. His father was a union shop steward for twenty-two years.
[edit] Radio
Christian gained plaudits and honours for his radio work for BBC local radio stations in the 1980s with his Barbed Wireless programme winning Sony Awards and worked on KFM Radio, Key 103 and Piccadilly Radio.
He was sacked, along with a producer, in September 1995 from Talk Radio UK for allowing the broadcast of controversial material.
In later years Christian has returned to radio though has continued to do occasional TV projects. He is best known, however, for turning the Manchester accent into something more nationally-known, though his own slightly nasal tones have been the subject of much well ridicule.
Christian can now be heard on BBC Radio Manchester, presenting the Breakfast show every weekday morning from 6-9am & also co-presents the Manchester Music show, with Conrad Murray every Saturday night from 10pm-1am. He also presents the occasional talk show "It's My Life" which deals with common yet often controversial problems encountered in real people.
He is also the presenter of The Final Whistle on talkSPORT every Saturday between 5:00pm-8:00pm alongside Micky Quinn.
[edit] Television
Christian shot to national fame — and notoriety — in 1990, when he was recruited to host the controversial and cultish Channel 4 youth show The Word. The show regularly pushed boundaries of taste and legality but gained a massive audience and Christian remained its only continuous presenter until it was axed in 1995.
On 17 November 1995, he appeared on Have I Got News For You. In 2004, he appeared in two reality TV programmes, The Farm and I'm Famous and Frightened!. In 2006, he appeared on Armando Iannucci's Time Trumpet on BBC2.
[edit] Writing
Christian has written two books: Brothers - from Childhood to Oasis - about Oasis, and Reds In The Hood - about growing up in Old Trafford.
