Terry Bogard (テリー・ボガード Terī Bogādo?) is a video game character created by SNK, and is the main character of the Fatal Fury series. Without a doubt, Terry is SNK's most recognizable and enduring character, often used as a mascot. He has appeared in every single Fatal Fury game, every single King of Fighters game, and is one of the characters of choice to symbolize the company in crossover games, merchandise and publicity. He appears to fit many Japanese stereotypes for an American character, both in appearance and personality.
Terry Bogard is the brother of Andy Bogard. Both of them were orphans adopted by Jeff Bogard, however, it is unknown if the two are actually brothers by blood. He is often referred to as the Legendary Hungry Wolf (from Garou Densetsu, meaning Legend of the Hungry Wolf). He has a pet monkey named Ukee (the previous mascot of SNK before Terry) and is said to have the unique ability of accurately guessing a woman's measurements just by glancing at her. He also has a knack of shooting three-pointers or free throws.

[edit] Look
Terry is often pictured either in his traditional outfit, or his Garou outfit, the former consisting of a red and white baseball cap, a red sleeveless jacket with a white star on the back, a white shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of what appear to be Chuck Taylor All-Stars. This "classic" outfit actually differs somewhat from his look in the original Fatal Fury, in which his jacket had rolled up sleeves, similar to the one Michael Jackson sported in his Beat It video. His shoes also appeared to be Reebok Freestyles as opposed to the Chuck Taylor All-Stars he is now known for.
The front of his cap displays either the Fatal Fury logo (in the King of Fighters series) or the King of Fighters logo (in the Fatal Fury series), though nothing has ever been visible on the cap in any of Terry's in-game sprites. In the animated films, his cap has no logo, but is instead replaced by a large metal plate.
The Garou look consists of a brown bomber jacket with a white star on the back, as well as a white shirt, blue jeans, and brown boots. His hair, while still notably lengthly, is worn considerably shorter than the ponytail he sports in his classic look. As of The King of Fighters 2003, this is now Terry's default look, showing both the progression of storylines and Terry's own age. He has not been featured in his classic look in any subsequent canon games, though due to its recognizability, the classic look continues to appear in crossover games and the Maximum Impact series.

[edit] Fatal Fury
[edit] The Geese Howard Era
Terry hails from the fictitious town of Southtown, U.S.A. (a setting for many SNK games), and is the adoptive son of Jeff Bogard. During his childhood, he witnessed the death of his father at the hands of Geese Howard. On the advice of his father's mentor Tung Fu Rue, Terry chose to pursue his revenge at a later time. But unlike his brother Andy, who left Southtown to train in Japan, Terry chose to stay in his hometown, combining the skills learned from his father with abilities gained from the streets.
Many years later, the crime lord Geese Howard organized a tournament, The King of Fighters. Terry, Andy and Muay Thai Kickboxing champion Joe Higashi would enter with the purpose of facing Geese. The battle that followed would eventually see Terry defeating Geese, and for some time, it was thought that Geese was killed. The next year saw Geese's half-brother Wolfgang Krauser take control of The King of Fighters, and bringing the once Southtown-only tournament onto the world stage. The finals of this new tournament would again see Terry fighting the sponsor and him ultimately defeating Krauser.
Some time later it was revealed that Geese had survived his encounter with Terry. The Bogards and friends learned of Geese's intentions to retrieve the legendary Jin scrolls, Terry once again challenged and defeated him. During a rematch, Terry knocked Geese off the edge of Geese Tower, but grabbed hold of Geese's hand and tried to keep him from falling. But this was not to be, as Geese let go of Terry, plummeting to his permanent death. It was then that Terry found a young boy, Geese's son, Rock Howard. It's suggested that Geese's final wish were to take care of Rock, but it also could be Terry's own reasoning.
[edit] The Rock Howard Era
Since then, several catalystic events happened. Southtown control went under due to the economical issues after Geese's death. Second Southtown was established near the original Southtown for illegal trade, but even though Second South enjoyed a comeback, the tranquility of Second Southtown has been eclipsed by the next-generation crimelord, Kain R. Heinlein.
About 10 years after the events in Real Bout Fatal Fury, the King of Fighters: Maximum Mayhem (hosted and sponsored by Kain R. Heinlein) would go underway, and Terry and Rock were invited to take part of the tournament. Both Terry and Rock entered the tournament to settle their pasts once and for all.
Although Terry and Rock were to face off against each other in the finals, Grant (a.k.a. The Martyr of Might) approached the two by surprise. Terry told Rock that now would not be a good time to square off against each other since he had to fight Grant. Although Terry was victorious against Grant, he was too exhausted to proceed, forcing Rock to succeed Terry's place in the final minutes of Maximum Mayhem. As Grant started to pass away due to excessive might, Grant ordered Rock to go to Kain's mansion to learn more about his past. Terry became nothing but a spectator as Rock eventually defeated Kain with a version of Geese's Deadly Rave.
Approaching the crumpled mansion, Terry finds out that Rock is now Kain's partner, and knows that he must trust Rock's decision to stick with Kain for a while. Terry then leaves the vicinity, knowing that Rock has finally left his den. Terry eventually finds Kevin Rian's partner, Marky, a moment after losing Rock to Kain. Realizing his failure, Terry then lived the life of a lonely wolf once again. Time will only tell whether or not Terry will find another cub to raise.
[edit] The King of Fighters
In The King of Fighters series, SNK used Terry's background story of Fatal Fury 1-2, in that after he had defeated Geese and Krauser, he recieved an invitation to enter a new team fighting tournament called The King of Fighters '94. [1] Since then, Terry has been in many KOF tournaments. He even took on the newcomer Kyo Kusanagi and the dangerous Iori Yagami, slayers of the Orochi. And in 1999, Terry battled K', a product of NESTS. In 2003, he encountered the mysterious Ash Crimson. Also note that in this series, Terry is always listed as 24 years old [2] [3] [4], and has still never defeated Geese for the second time.
In most every King of Fighters installment, Terry Bogard has been team captain of Team Fatal Fury. Though the team's roster has changed through the installments, including two separate Fatal Fury teams in The King of Fighetrs XI, Terry has always been present, and is notable as one of the few characters to appear in every King of Fighters game thus far.
