Terror Firmer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Terror Firmer is an American film. The film was directed by Lloyd Kaufman, written by Patrick Cassidy and Douglas Buck, and starred Will Keenan, Alyce LaTourelle, and director Lloyd Kaufman. The film was produced by the legendary Troma Entertainment company, infamous for producing so-called "trash films". Terror Firmer is one of the most well known amongst those films, though it was released in 1999, several years after the most popular Troma films. The film is something of a tribute to Troma's past, featuring as it does many direct references to the productions of previous Troma films, such as The Toxic Avenger, and including famous Troma props, like the Penis Monster (referred to as "Thor, the God of Love" in the movie) and the severed leg. It was based, in that respect, on Kaufman and James Gunn's book All I Need to Know about Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger.

The plot, though largely an excuse to get as many former Troma actors and as much sex and violence on screen as possible, consists of the production of a new Troma film—Aptly titled Terror Firmer. A love triangle develops on the set, and a female murderer has been killing various members of the cast and crew. Lloyd Benjamin, the director, portrayed by Kaufmann, does what he can to prevent the set from spiraling out of control.

Most reviewers agree that the self referential idea of a Troma film inside a Troma film is clever and well-executed, and that it delivers well for what kind of film it is. However, some have said that it contains too much "trash" and related elements, and may be excessive in that regard.[1]
